Is your little one ready to enter a new stage in life? More importantly, Are you ready for your little one to enter that new stage? Well ready or not, the dreaded potty training will enter your life sooner than later. Don't be worried though.....it can be a easy transition if you and child are ready. With these 5 rules, you can make toilet training a fun, interactive, learning experience for the entire family!!
First rule: Be patient!! It will take time...sometimes months. But before long, those diaper duties of yours will be out the door!!
Second rule: Have plenty of underwear on hand because accidents will happen!!! When those accidents do happen, STAY CALM!! Never associate toilet training with discipline.
Third rule: Prepare special rewards for when your child does successfully use the toilet. EX: Stickers, Fruit Snacks, and a special potty party when child is fully trained.
Fourth rule: When you are ready to toilet train, NO MORE DIAPERS!! Consistency, consistency, and more consistency is a major key. Underwear is the best way in my opinion to toilet train. If and when they do have accidents, the wetness will send a signal to your child that they are having a pee or bowel movement. I don't even suggest the pull-ups, they absorb wetness and your child can become comfortable going in the pull up. So stick to the underwear. Accidents are going to happen and you will have a load of laundry to do daily. But believe me, no diapers or pull ups during toilet training will pay off MAJORLY!!
Fifth rule: As I mentioned before...consistency!! Take your child to the toilet every 30 minutes. I know this can be difficult if you have a busy schedule or other children on hand. The easiest way to keep track of when it's time to go is to use a timer. Set it for 30 minutes and let the child know that when the timer goes off....it's time to potty!!! It will also help you also in keeping track.
Sounds simple enough, huh? Well I know that it's not. But with these 5 tips, you can make it a little simpler. Always remember to celebrate with child when successful. Make fun activities for bathroom trips, ex: potty songs, taking a baby doll or stuffed animal to potty with child etc. And remember, NEVER associate discipline with toilet training. One more tip: During public outings, I would suggest using a pull up that has a wetness liner, so the child can still associate the pull up with the underwear. Good luck with everything!!!
